Risks of Tribal Ministry

A recent communication from our team in Coastal Asia told a story of determination, commitment, and love at all costs. We’re so honored to partner with men like BJ, who has been in the ministry for 25 years.

Pastor BJ recently traveled to a small, remote village in Coastal Asia. With him were some young people who are in training to be evangelists and pastors, having made life-long commitments to serving Jesus Christ with their gifts and talents. Their conversion from Hinduism to Christianity came at no small price to them individually. We applaud them for their courage and willingness to go where the Lord leads them.

The evangelistic mission was successful and we join the team with praise to God for new conversions and baptism during this mission. On the return trip from the village situated in an area where the terrain is challenging, one of the young men lost his footing and fell, fracturing his leg. Without hesitation, the team prayed for him and trusted God for the strength to carry him to a hospital where he could be treated.

Although the young evangelist suffered from a broken leg, the pain was minimal considering the nature and location of the fracture. The doctors were able to cast his leg. Aside from the minimal pain from a serious fracture, once his leg was cast, he was determined to regain his mobility and resume ministry activities.

While this may seem like a fairly insignificant testimony, we need to remember the conditions of life in the remote areas of Coastal Asia. There are reasons many of these tribal villages are not evangelized, the main one being the challenge of accessing many of the small communities. There may only be a small number of people in a village, but the Gospel must go forward to EVERY nation, tribe, and tongue for the glory of God and the advancement of His Kingdom on earth.
